See how this Virginia family transformed their 1930s farmhouse

While anyone who has a passion for rustic decor can appreciate the careful nuances of an original farmhouse, there comes a time when a renovation cannot be avoided. However, a renovation does not mean that a home has to lose it charm and character. Michelle Nupen and her husband, owners of this pastoral farmhouse, were sure to retain as much of the home's history as possible. This involved the careful removal of the original, hand cut 2x4's to be re-purposed in projects throughout the home. One of these projects was the construction of an impressive farmhouse table built and designed by Michelle's husband. The finishing touch to the table is an embellishment unique to the family itself, an silver inlay of the family crest.
While on a tight budget, the Nupen family was still able include many enviable features in their plan. The kitchen features soapstone countertops and a pristine farmhouse sink. Subway tile accented by charcoal grout can be seen in the kitchen and bathrooms as well. A spacious island in the open concept kitchen/family room can easily accommodate this family of 6. The pictures below showcase a rejuvenated farmhouse with plenty of vintage charm.
