Peek inside a bright custom-built farmhouse snug in rural Minnesota

If you operate a business out of your home you know the importance of creating a workspace that is functional and inspiring. So when Kate Becker, natural light photographer, and her husband began to construct their custom farmhouse, they made certain that it would not lack for windows. Located in Minnesota's farmland, this white and gray home features lofty interior ceilings accented by a crisp white color palette and minimal decor. Wooden elements like sliding barn doors, shiplap clad walls and rich hardwood flooring provide depth and textural interest throughout the home. The open concept kitchen and living room is spacious and inviting and ideal for holiday gatherings and family events. And when the weather turns cold a fireplace will fill the room with much-needed warmth and that comforting wood crackle.
On the second floor of the home is a sparse photography studio designed to take advantage of the light afforded through its windows. The peaked ceiling creates a cozy atmosphere for those adorable newborn photography sessions.

The modern rustic style of this Minnesotan farmhouse is sure to make it a home for generations to come.
The living room features an accent wall clad with shiplap and a built-in fireplace.
The home's great room is an open-concept space that accommodates both a living area and kitchen.
Galvanized metal panels accent a portion of the rectangular kitchen island while the overhand accommodates four comfy bar stools.
A farmhouse table sits in front of large, light-giving windows in the dining area.
The attic is painted a crisp white that contrasts beautifully with the warm wood flooring. While the cozy reading nook is a great place to curl up and relax, Becker uses the finished attic as a photography studio.
The neutral tones are carried into the bedroom, where touches of dark wood add warmth and a 100-year-old bed (rescued and restored out of Becker's grandparents' barn) brings a piece of family history.
The master bath is outfitted with a clawfoot tub for those much-needed evening soaks.
