Try not to envy every lovely detail hidden throughout a charming Saratoga farmhouse

While perusing through pictures of classic farmhouses it isn't unusual to come across one painted a crisp white. In fact, you're likely to come across many country homes painted in this light-reflective shade. On the other hand, it can be refreshing to break away and try something a little different. This is exactly what photographer Paula Fairman did when constructing their farmhouse in the hills of Saratoga Country, New York. Whether it be surrounded by mounds of snow, or complimenting the colors of fall, the Fairman residence exudes that prototypical rustic farm vibe. The deep red siding pairs beautifully with the contrasting white trim and touches of brick and stone add depth and texture to the home's exterior.

The interior of the home is decidedly more subdued with its main color being white with subtle touches of blue and green. This is an ideal color scheme for the open concept main floor as it allows light to reflect throughout the space. The choice of one predominant color in spaces like these also ensures an easy flow from room to room.

Depth of color and texture is created through the use of wide plank hardwood floors, a brick fireplace, shiplap and weathered wood accents. Layered textiles such as throw blankets, accent pillows and area rugs soften the design and create that welcoming atmosphere. This is farmhouse living at its finest.

Between the kitchen and living room sits the dining table with seating for 10.

The kitchen island has been painted a soft green and topped with a butcher block countertop to create contrast with the perimeter of white cabinetry.

The lack of interior walls on the main floor provide clear sight lines from the living room straight through to the kitchen.

A wood burning fireplace creates the focal point for this cozy sitting area.

Navy, burlap and wood accents pop against the crisp white shiplap wall.
