Modern style meets classic farmhouse in this stunning home

Jen is a mom of two and the creative director of City Farmhouse, a design and lifestyle blog. Many of the projects shared on the site are displayed in the founder’s own coastal home on the east end of Long Island. Her chic sensibility fuses classic farmhouse style with fresh injections of color, greenery and layers of texture.
Custom renovations such as a new sleek white kitchen and fun DIYs (including a permanent marker throw pillow in the living room) add dashes of personality throughout. Jen says her aesthetic is to focus on family over perfection, preferring a lived-in home to the overly pristine.

A custom sofa in a soft woven gray anchors the living room, and Jen swaps out accessories with the seasons – favoring tasseled throw pillows in the summer and layers of rich earthy coastal hues in the fall. Aged brass sconces feature a woven pendant for a boho vibe, complemented by pops of greenery throughout. A leather armchair adds to the depth of the palette.
The newly renovated earthy white kitchen features DIY wood beams to create a farmhouse vibe below, with an expansive island topped with white stone and painted olive green. Geometric pendants hang from above, anchoring a space to sit and have breakfast or enjoy a cup of coffee. White subway tile and white-painted cabinets offer a clean backdrop, accessorized by indigo runners.
Situated off of the kitchen, the dining room is used for special occasions, sporting expansive views of the bay from large windows. Tufted chairs and a white bench surround the large farmhouse table, tucked beneath a wood cage pendant light.
Views of the bay can be enjoyed on the front porch, a favorite summer destination. An outdoor rug anchors a small table, sofa and deck chairs accented by colorful throw pillows. A hanging chair is complemented by plants and baskets to stash throw blankets and create a cozy summer vignette.
The backyard sports a firepit for warm weather enjoyment, surrounded by a wicker sectional outdoor sofa. Cafe lights, throw pillows and full hedges create a charming atmosphere. Al fresco dinners are served on the whitewashed picnic table, surrounded by metal cafe chairs.
A white backdrops keeps things simple in one of the boys’ room, which is accessorized by a blue painted chest and DIY iPhone artwork. A loft bed keeps floor space accessible, and a small table offers a space to create art or work on homework.
Shane’s room sports a modern rustic feel that mixes urban and vintage. A loft bed leaves room for a sofa below, and a tall chest in a slate blue offers plenty of storage, leaving maximum floor space and room for activities.

Chevron wallpaper adds geometric interest to the master bedroom, accessorized by a sunburst mirror over the bed. A palette of white and gray is layered with an array of textures – such as a sheepskin rug put over white carpet – to create visual interest while keeping the space light and airy.
