One room at a time, this Texas couple turns a spec home into a chic farmhouse

Holly and Brad are the DIY duo behind @ourfauxfarmhouse. Together, they've been transforming their Texas spec home to suit the needs of their growing family of seven.
They painted the brick exterior in a white lime wash to give the home a unique feel compared to typical Texas construction. Inside, they crafted each room to serve as functional spaces for the family, each in a beautiful farmhouse aesthetic awash in light and texture.

In the kitchen, DIY quartz countertops provide a sleek counterpart to the geometric chevron backsplash. The island does double duty as a breakfast bar, accompanied by three rattan stools. Sleek pained cabinetry is juxtaposed with a wooden chevron range hood.
A Boutique Rugs area rug anchors the dining table, accompanied by vintage-look chairs. An antique-style chandelier in a dark bronze finish offers plenty of light.
The king-size bed is anchored by a 10-foot Boutique Rugs flatweave. A paneled statement wall provides design interest, and whitewashed hardwood floors offer a clean aesthetic.
Patterned ceramic tile livens up the laundry room, accompanied by pre-assembled cabinets, Silestone Quartz counters and LG appliances from Home Depot. White subway tile creates a clean backsplash.
In the open floor plan, the living room is across from the kitchen, separated by a wood beam on the ceiling. A large sectional sofa offers a comfy respite, decorated with patterned throw pillows and pom pom blankets.
Across from the sofa, Brad and Holly finished the fireplace in a white lime-washed brick. Holly changes the mantel decorations with each new season or holiday.
The older boys' room features one of the couple's first DIY projects. By re-creating Pottery Barn farmhouse beds, Brad was able to save the couple thousands of dollars. The black painted beds are complemented by geometric carpet and a natural wood ship-lap wall.
Brad installed vertical ship-lap in the master bathroom, painted in Sherwin Williams Peppercorn. A large tub features a sleek subway tile surround.
The smaller children sleep in the bunk room, which features a loft bed surrounded by safety rails. A geometric rug anchors the space, which is carpeted for coziness and safety.
A small nursery for the couple's youngest child features a gray crib and black and white wallpaper, with loving touches of decor.
Outside, a large awning covers the expansive patio, which features a picnic table and plenty of seating options. A DIY succulent wall holds Holly's array of plants.
A small office space hosts a DIY double desk with file storage. The chevron wall adds design interest, anchored by a floral motif rug.

The landing area creates a cozy seating nook with two armchairs, providing a place to curl up with a book or cup of tea.

Because its owner is a curator of vintage items for a living, it's no surprise Megan Steele's Texas home is chock-full of antique finds. Her aesthetic mixes classic pieces with remastered oldies.
